If you are a senior who lives in New York State, aged 60 years or older, and low-income, you may be eligible to receive Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) checks. Eligible seniors receive a booklet with $4.00 Senior FMNP checks that can only be used to purchase local, fresh, unprocessed vegetables and fruits at participating farmers markets and farm stands.
Senior Project FRESH/Market FRESH. The Senior Project FRESH/Market FRESH program is aimed at helping older adults eat healthier as they age. The program provides participants free nutrition counseling and $20 in coupons that can be exchanged for fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods sold at local farmers markets and roadside stands.
Participation in the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is limited to those senior citizens who are 60 years and older and whose gross income (i.e., income before deductions for income taxes, Social Security taxes, insurance premiums, bonds, etc.) is equal to or less than the income poverty guidelines increased by 185%.
The Department of Aging partners with area agencies on aging to offer the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program in 45 counties. Participants receive ten $5 coupons to use at participating farmers' markets and roadside stands. Coupons can be redeemed for Ohio-grown fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and honey. Some restrictions apply.
Each eligible senior that applies will receive $35 in coupons that may be used from June 1 through October 31. Coupons for the SFMNP will be provided to eligible applicants through distribution agencies on a first-come, first-serve basis in areas with authorized farmers.
